Now that Meghan Markle is an official member of the royal family, she has a lot to look forward to, including a close kinship with Queen Elizabeth. Although the two royals looked like the best of pals at their first joint engagement, Majesty editor Ingrid Seward says that the two are still in the verrrrrry early stages of their relationship.

In an interview with Grazia, Seward revealed that we can tell just how close the two women are by listening to how Meghan addresses the Queen.

Per royal protocol, during the early stage of their relationship (as in right now), she's expected to refer to the Queen as "Your Majesty." As they grow closer, she'll move on to "M'am" and eventually - if she follows in Princess Diana's footsteps - she'll settle with "Mama," a nickname reserved for the closest royals.

Princess Diana reportedly referred to the Queen as "Mama" during the last decade of her life. While many questioned their relationship, Lady Di publicly leaned on the Queen for support during her divorce from Prince Charles. In Diana: In Her Own Words, recordings from 1992-1993 revealed that the Princess even called her mother-in-law “sobbing” about the dissolution of her marriage. If that's not close, then what is?

There's no word if Kate Middleton has reached the "Mama" level yet but we suspect she's almost there, if not already.

Meghan aside, the Queen is clearly fond of nicknames. Her grandchildren (Harry and William, especially) call her "Granny" behind closed doors and her great-children call her "Gan-Gan." Oh, and at one point a young Prince William even called her "Gary." Even more adorable(?), Prince Philip, her husband of 71 years, calls her "Cabbage." But others claim he calls her "Sausage" and she calls him "The Hun." Sweet, huh?
