What does *that* moment at the end of Netflix's Trinkets mean?

Note: contains major spoilers for Trinkets.

At the end of Trinkets, Netflix's new YA drama based on Kirsten Smith's novel of the same name, Elodie (Brianna Hildebrand) was told by her dad Doug (Larry Sullivan) that she was being sent to stay at a treatment facility in Seattle (more than 360 miles from Portland, Oregon) to help her overcome her shoplifting addiction.

Understandably, his daughter didn't want to go, and with the help of Moe (Kiana Madeira) and Tabitha (Quintessa Swindell), she sneaked out of her house and took up Sabine's (Katrina Cunningham) offer to join the singer on her tour of America.

But as the pair drove off together into the sunset, you may have noticed police sirens tucked away during the series' final moment, undercutting the romanticism of that scene.

Who are they for, and what does that mean for the next season if it's given the green light?

Towards the end of the finale, Tabitha's abusive ex-boyfriend Brady (Brandon Butler) appeared to call the Lake Oswego Police (we didn't actually see him speak to them, so technically he could have backed down).

During a previous confrontation with Tabitha, he told her that he knew she was involved in stealing his car – his former girlfriend is the only person who has his locker combination and her watch was missing from the glove compartment. Brady then threatened to tell his parents and the police if she didn't take him back and make sure he was on the guest list for her father's Stanford University event. But when he arrived at the party, he was refused entry, and by that point we knew that Tabitha was fully invested in Luka (Henry Zaga).

Do those police sirens mean that Brady did report her for stealing his car? The girls seemingly weren't picked up by any CCTV, but like Brady said, Tabitha was the only one with his locker combination. Plus, the car itself had been recovered from the lake, so could there be some fingerprints or additional evidence there? If so, it's not looking good for her.

Then there's Elodie. In the state of Oregon, children between the ages of seven and 18 must attend school, unless a child younger than 18 has graduated, or a child aged 16 or above is employed and emancipated from their parents. Elodie is none of the above, which means she broke the law.

Did her dad call the police to bring her home, especially given how concerned he was about her mental health? Will Elodie and Sabine even make it out of Portland? Or will Doug let his daughter go and explore the country with her new crush?

Given that her absence from school is illegal and he's worried about his daughter, we doubt that very much.

Moe, who eventually admitted that she had never stolen anything in her life (apart from the Spanx she shoplifted alongside Tabitha and Elodie during their game of dare, although we didn't actually see her take them) nicked a bottle of tequila from a shop.

It's a drastic move considering the only reason she attended Shoplifters Anonymous was because she took the fall for her brother's friend. But after initially being forced to go, Moe decided to stay, even when she didn't have to, because she felt at home there.

Are the sirens for her? Is she caught red-handed by security and turned over to the police, or are all three of them about to face the cops for their crimes?

One thing is for certain: if Netflix does confirm season two (we should know in roughly one month), there are A LOT of big questions that need answers.
