Dog Bites Four-Year-Old: Two People Held

Two people have been arrested after a four-year-old boy was left needing surgery following a dog attack in Wigan.

A 45-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man are being held on suspicion of possessing a "dangerously out of control" dog, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers said they attended an address on Adelphi Street on Monday afternoon after receiving reports that dog had attacked a young boy.

The boy, who was bitten by what is believed to be an American Bulldog, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

His condition is described as serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Pete Carletti from GMP’s Wigan division said: "Clearly this is an issue we are taking extremely seriously and we are carrying out a full investigation to establish exactly what happened here at this address.

"The dog was seized immediately last night by petmedics and as part of our enquiries we have today arrested two people who will later be questioned by officers.

"I would appeal for anyone who has information that they think may help us with our enquiries to please get in touch and tell us what you know."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101 or contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
