Sausage dog dies after being 'thrown into air' by e-scooter on pavement

An OAP has been left heartbroken after her sausage dog killed when he was thrown into the air by an e-scooter riding on a pavement.

Sue Reynolds was walking her 14-year-old dachshund Jumbo when the scooter, which was being ridden on the pavement, hit her dog lead, sending Jumbo flying into the air.

The tiny animal landed on the road, where she said he "faded away" and died.

Reynolds, 72, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said the "aggressive" e-scooter ride, a man in his 20s, told her that she shouldn't have been walking on the pavement before he left the scene.

"It was horrendous, and I can’t unsee it," she said. "I shouted at him to stop or slow down, but he went right through the middle of the lead.

"It threw Jumbo flying through the air, and he landed on the road with such a slump that I don’t think we could have got past that.

"I picked him up, he was bleeding from his mouth, he just faded away, I had blood everywhere."

The 72-year-old has reported the incident, which happened in High Wycombe at around 8.15am on 12 May, to police.

It is not clear whether the scooter was privately owned or one of the scooters available to rent in the town but Zipp Mobility, which rents out scooters, said it was investigating what had happened.

Reynolds, who said her house felt empty without Jumbo in it, added: "E-scooters are the bane of our society at the moment.

"It’s about time they did something about it before someone is killed - and someone will be killed if it continues like that.

"You can't hear the scooters until they're right on top of you.

"A lot of people have said they’re now nervous being on the pavement. People shouldn’t have to live being frightened all the time that they will be flattened."

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: "Thames Valley Police has received a report of the death of a dog following an incident involving a man who was riding on an E-scooter.

"Officers are making further enquiries with regards to the incident."

A spokesperson from Zipp Mobility said: "We are very sorry to hear about this tragic incident.

"We are now investigating this incident."
