Dog Hauled to Safety by Group of Good Samaritans After Falling Into Manchester Canal

A group of good Samaritans in Manchester, England, went above and beyond to help a dog owner rescue their pet from a muddy canal, footage shared to Twitter on February 13 shows.

Footage recorded by David Bannatyne shows the dog in the Ancoats Canal in Manchester, as a group of Good Samaritans lower a man by his legs until he can reach the pooch.

Two students have been praised online for their heroic part in the effort to save the dog that, according to media reports, is named Sumak.

It has also been reported that the two students, both 20, were walking home from a coffee shop when they spotted the pet owner in need of help.

The video shows the group working together, while one of the students can be seen dangling headfirst above the canal to lift the dog to safety.

Bannatyne told Storyful that he wasn’t sure when the “rescue effort started,” but he got there to see the happy moment when the dog was reunited with its owner. Credit: David Bannatyne via Storyful
