Dog named Jesus rescued from lake by firefighters on Good Friday

Firefighters rescued a dog named Jesus from a lake on Good Friday.

The Staffordshire bull terrier-mix was pulled from the water in Sutton Park – a nature reserve about six miles north of Birmingham City Centre.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews were called to rescue the dog at about 2.30pm and they used a ladder and flotation device to retrieve him.

His owners named him Jesus when they rehomed him on Good Friday three years ago.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, about 100 people were watching from the water’s edge and some were threatening to jump in to rescue the dog.

West Midlands Fire Service tweeted: “Crews from @SuttonCfld_Fire have rescued a dog from a lake in Sutton Park.

“The dog was called (and this is no joke) Jesus, he was rescued on Good Friday by crews using a triple extension ladder and personal flotation device. #happyEaster2019”
