Dog owners have just scored another major point in the battle for supremacy over cat owners – they’re more sexually attractive.

That’s according to a new study of 1000 singletons, which found that 63 percent of people find dog owners to be more attractive – in contrast with the 18 percent of people who fancy cat owners.

The other 19 percent, who presumably have no souls, weren’t attracted to pet owners at all.

The study does little to dispel the image of lonely singletons sitting in a flat surrounded by thousands of cats – but it’s good news all round for dog lovers everywhere.

The research was commissioned by Elite Singles, and also discovered that people definitely take pets into consideration when they’re looking for a lover.

A staggering 72 percent of people said that you can tell how someone will behave in a relationship based on their relationship with their pets.

And it seems that loyalty with dogs over humans is a very really thing too – with 32 percent of dog owners admitting that they would ditch their date if they were convinced that their mutt didn’t approve – with 27 percent of cat owners believing the same.

Psychologist Salama Marine believes that the figures reflect how singletons may believe that selfish people would be ineffective when it came to raising a pet.

She said: ‘As raising animals – particularly active animals like dogs – requires a lot of commitment and dedication, singles with pets are often perceived to be kind, friendly and ready to commit to a long term relationship.’

And with that, we’re off to buy a puppy.
