Firefighters sprang into action when a dog plunged 30ft down cliffs in a Gwynedd seaside resort. She had been chasing a pheasant through woodland before falling down rocks behind a row of Aberdyfi houses that look out over the Dyfi estuary.

A combined fire crew from Tywyn and Aberdyfi responded to calls from passersby for help with retrieving the dog, Tilly, from behind properties on Terrace Road. They raced to the scene on Monday morning, November 11.

Tywyn Fire Station said: “We quickly located the dog at the rear of terrace of houses and pulled her to safety. Her owner was delighted to be reunited with her.” Sign up now for the latest news on the North Wales Live Whatsapp community

Tilly was checked over by experts at Williams Vets. A veterinary nurse said online: “She is bumped and bruised but all OK. Her poor mum will need a few more days to recover!”

Fire teams at Tywyn and Aberdyfi work together to maximise their crewing options. Being just four miles apart, they supply each other with staff to ensure both appliances are available. Get all the latest Gwynedd news by signing up to our newsletter - sent every Tuesday
