Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of a number of forwards under consideration by Manchester United as his Everton contract standoff continues. The ECHO understands that while Calvert-Lewin is one of a number of options being considered by the Old Trafford club, another new centre-forward is not United’s priority heading into the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Instead, Erik ten Hag's side are believed to be focussing their efforts on brining another midfielder to the club. The England international is into the final year of his Everton contract, and despite being offered an extension earlier this summer, he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. A move to Newcastle United also collapsed at the start of the window.

The forward has been plagued by injuries in recent years but was back to his best towards the end of the last season and played a key role in ensuring that Everton secured their place in this season’s top-flight. Calvert-Lewin has also featured in each of his side’s five pre-season friendlies this summer.

After getting off the mark against Preston North End from the penalty spot, Calvert-Lewin was again on target at the weekend against AS Roma as the Blues brought the curtain down on their pre-season campaign at Goodison Park.

Speaking after the game, the 27-year-old dropped a huge hint that he will remain at Everton this season. He said: "It was a good shift from the lads.

"Good to get some more minutes in the legs and a nice confidence boost going into the first game of the season.

"[Pre-season] has been good - tough but enjoyable. It's flown by, the first game of the season is this week, it seems like it has come around so quickly, but I think we are chomping at the bit ready to feel that atmosphere - a rocking Goodison.

"I feel good going into the first game of the season, it's always good to be hitting the back of the net regularly, and I think with the pre-season we have had, I am feeling good and feeling strong, so I am looking forward to getting cracking."
