Dominic Cummings has made explosive claims about the government’s handling of the Coronavirus pandemic. During a select committee hearing in Parliament, the prime minister’s former aide criticised Boris Johnson’s first reaction to the virus and for delaying the initial lockdown He also attacked Matt Hancock, insisting he should have been sacked from his job as health secretary. Cummings was a key decision maker during the first 18 months of the pandemic despite being a controversial figure in government. He was heavily criticized for taking a trip to Barnard Castle during the first national lockdown in April 2020 claiming he we wanted to test his eyesight to make sure he was alright to drive back to London. He was ordered out of his role at Downing Street in November 2020 due to an apparent power struggle, which also saw the departure of communications director Lee Cain.
