President of the United States Donald Trump has responded to the endemic problem of gun violence across America, which is in the news again following the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida.

While plenty of politicians, celebrities and ordinary people have called for stricter gun control laws to finally be introduced, Trump has another plan: create a ratings system for movies and video games!

In a meeting on school safety, Trump said: "I'm hearing more and more people saying the level of violence in video games is really shaping young people's thoughts.

"And then you go the further step, and that's the movies. You see these movies, and they're so violent. A kid is able to see the movie if sex isn't involved, but killing is involved, and maybe we need to put a ratings system for that."

So what are these then?

It is unknown whether Trump literally isn't aware of the MPAA and ESRB ratings boards, or wants to create a government-owned replacement for these services that were specifically set up to avoid government censorship of entertainment.

Both studies and US courts have stated multiple times that there is no link between video games and real-life violence, something echoed by a Parkland survivor:

It should also be noted that violent movies and video games are consumed in multiple countries without legal access to guns, and these countries have FAR fewer gun-related incidents.
