Donald Trump blasts congresswomen as ‘left wing cranks’ in latest broadside

Donald Trump has hit out again at four Democratic congresswomen, describing them as "left wing cranks”.

In his latest broadside at the four politicians, Mr Trump posted a tweet that accused Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib of “destroying” the Democrat Party.

His comments come after he was widely condemned for his “racist” tweets about the four women, where he was accused of making “comments that legitimised fear and hatred of new Americans and people of colour.”

Mr Trump has insisted he was not being racist when he suggested the four “progressive” women politicians should “go back” to the "broken and crime-infested countries from which they came."

On Wednesday the US President launched into another war of words with the women and his criticisers and tweeted a quote from Louisiana Senator John Kennedy.

He posted: “In America, if you hate our Country, you are free to leave. The simple fact of the matter is, the four Congresswomen think that America is wicked in its origins, they think that America is even more wicked now, that we are all racist and evil.

“They’re entitled to their opinion, they’re Americans. Now I’m entitled to my opinion, & I just think they’re left wing cranks.

“They’re the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle, & we should ignore them. The “squad” has moved the Democrat Party substantially LEFT, and they are destroying the Democrat Party.

“I’m appalled that so many of our Presidential candidates are falling all over themselves to try to agree with the four horsewomen of the apocalypse. I’m entitled to say that they’re Wack Jobs.’ Louisiana Senator John Kennedy.”

Ms Ocasio-Cortez has previously replied to the controversial comments and accused the 73-year-old of “relying on racism and division to consolidate power”.

As well as Ms Ocasio-Cortez, senior British politicians have condemned Mr Trump, including Jeremy Corbyn, Theresa May, Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson.

Mr Trump, who has refused to back down over the issue, has defended the tweets amid criticism.

He tweeted: "Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body!"

Mr Trump continued: "The so-called vote to be taken is a Democrat con game. Republicans should not show 'weakness' and fall into their trap. This should be a vote on the filthy language, statements and lies told by the Democrat Congresswomen, who I truly believe, based on their actions, hate our Country."
