Donald Trump has claimed that construction of a wall between Mexico and the United States’ Southern Border can ‘go forward’ after a judge ruled against an attempt to block it.

U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel, whose parents immigrated from Mexico, ruled on Tuesday against a legal challenge to the wall, which questioned the environmental waivers granted by the Department of Homeland Security.

Curiel’s ruling effectively means that the Trump administration will be able to continue waiving regulations to build barriers on the border.

‘In its review of this case, the court cannot and does not consider whether underlying decisions to construct the border barriers are politically wise or prudent’, Curiel ruled.

Trump has now responded positively to the ruling and hailed it as a big step in achieving his ultimate goal of building the divisive border wall.

‘Big legal win today. U.S. judge sided with the Trump Administration and rejected the attempt to stop the government from building a great Border Wall on the Southern Border’, he wrote on Twitter.

‘Now this important project can go forward!’

The positive tone of Trump’s message is a marked contrast to yesterday, when he slammed talk of collusion between his Presidential campaign and Russia as a ‘witch hunt’.

Mr Trump posted a series of tweets referring to the allegations, including one quoting legal analyst Jonathan Turley and another quoting Judge Ken Starr, as well as a third with just two words: “WITCH HUNT!”.

The tweets are not the first time the President has denied collusion between his campaign and Russia, dismissing any probe into the relationship between the two.
