Donald Trump falsely claimed that the Queen reviewed the Guard of Honour "for the first time in 70 years" during his visit to the UK.

The US President made the slip-up as he recounted his visit to Windsor Castle last week during a speech at the White House on Tuesday.

He said: “We met with the Queen, who is absolutely a terrific person, where she reviewed her Honour Guard for the first time in 70 years, they tell me.

"We walked in front of the Honour Guard and that was very inspiring to see and be with her.

"And I think the relationship, I can truly say is a good one. But she was very, very inspiring indeed."

However, many people pointed out that this information was false.

The Queen’s coronation was in June 1953 and she has been on the throne for 66 years. She has also reviewed the Guard of Honour frequently during her reign as monarch.

In 2011 she reviewed the Honour Guard when she met President Obama.

A number of people mocked Mr Trump’s comments on Twitter.

“Exactly how old does he think she is? One person asked.

While another person said: “Trump claims that the Queen reviewed her Honour Guard for the first time in 70 years. That’s absolute nonsense.”

The Queen has met with 10 US presidents during her time on the throne.

Trump’s visit to Windsor Castle caused controversy when he broke royal protocol by walking in front of the Queen as he discussed the Guard of Honour.
