Donald Trump issues statement as FBI confirm second 'apparent assassination attempt'
Former President Donald Trump has issued a statement after he was hurriedly escorted to safety in what has been described as a second assassination attempt on him. The 78 year old Republican presidential candidate was at his National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, when gunshots were heard nearby.
Afterwards, a statement from Mr Trump said: "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!
"Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. May God bless you."

The FBI has since confirmed that the incident on Sunday was an "apparent assassination attempt". The business tycoon was enjoying a round of golf at his Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach around 2pm on Sunday.
This club is located just five miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach. According to law enforcement sources, agents opened fire on a man they spotted carrying what seemed to be a firearm while Trump was on the course, as reported by The New York Post.
Following this, Trump was swiftly moved to safety by the Secret Service. Reports say local law enforcement later found an AK-47 rifle hidden in the bushes.
Sources informed CNN that the shots fired at Trump International Golf Club were intended for the former President..
