Golfers have reacted in horror to footage that appears to show President Donald Trump driving a golf buggy across a putting green on one of his courses.

Footage shared on social media shows Mr Trump driving across a green to give his partner a putter in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Mr Trump then tells the person filming him he has "the best security in the history of golf."

When asked how he is hitting, Mr Trump responds: "Good until this hole."

The course, one of 17 owned by Trump Golf, is due to host the US Open womens' tournament next month.

Mr Trump's son Eric, who manages the golf interests of the company, said it will be "the best ever".

The president has been criticised for the amount of time he spends playing golf, particularly as he repeatedly attacked Barack Obama for enjoying the sport.

Mr Trump has been to a golf course 28 times since his January 20 inauguration, according to the Trump golf count tracker.

By June 12, Mr Obama had played golf five times in his presidency.

Mr Trump, by contrast, had enjoyed 17 rounds by the same date.
