A White House schedule shows Donald Trump is set to hold a "listening session" with victims of the Valentine's Day Florida high school massacre.

The White House did not immediately answer questions about which students would be attending the session on Wednesday.

Mr Trump is also set to meet with state and local officials on school safety on Thursday.

Students who survived the shooting in Parkland that left 17 dead have focused their anger on the president, urging him and other elected officials to do something about gun violence.

Mr Trump earlier visited Broward Health North Hospital on Friday, where he saw two victims and praised the doctors and nurses for their "incredible" job.

The president lashed out at the FBI on Saturday night, accusing the agency of "missing signals" sent by the suspect of the school shooting by "spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign".

The US president wrote on Twitter: "Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable.

"They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion.

"Get back to the basics and make us all proud!"

The FBI admitted on Friday it failed to act on a tip it received last month about suspect Nikolas Cruz, who officials say has admitted to the shooting.

The agency's acknowledgment that it mishandled the tip prompted a sharp rebuke from its boss, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and a call from Florida's Republican governor Rick Scott, an ally, for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign.

One student branded the president a "piece of s***" on Twitter, claiming several of her classmates at the high school were killed in Wednesday's horrifying shooting in Parkland.

Mr Trump had tweeted his “prayers and condolences” to the families of those murdered as the shooter stormed Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Dismissing the US leader’s message of support, she wrote on Twitter: “I don’t want your condolences you f****** price [sic] of s***, my friends and teachers were shot. Multiple of my fellow classmates are dead.

“Do something instead of sending prayers. Prayers won’t fix this. But gun control will prevent it from happening again.”

Suspect Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder after he allegedly opened fire at the high school with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Police said he had a history of “disturbing” social media posts, while former classmates said he was obsessed with guns.
