Donald Trump has sparked anger among golfers by driving his cart over the putting green in an “appalling” breach of the sport’s etiquette.

Images shared on social media show the US President wheeling around his own Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey.

When caught on camera riding across the green, Mr Trump complained he had been having a good game “until this hole”.

Golfers have hit out at the President’s actions, saying he has violated one of the sport’s unwritten rules.

It comes as the US Women’s Open is due to be held on the course next month.

Ryan Bellengee tweeted: “What the hell, Trump? You don't drive the cart on the green, even if they are yours!”

Matthew Sims wrote: “Appalling. Lazy. Disrespectful. His biggest crime yet; lock him up!”

Mr Trump has regularly been spotted relaxing on a golf course since his presidency began.

NBC News reported he recently spent his 31st day on the green since taking office – 20 per cent of the 156 days he has spent at the White House.
