Donald Trump takes on Oprah Winfrey after 60 Minutes panel discussion saying: 'I hope she runs for office so I can expose and defeat her'

President Donald Trump said today that he hopes Oprah Winfrey will run against him in 2020 "so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!"

Calling the American TV icon "insecure," Mr Trump blasted Oprah’s handling of political panel discussion 60 Minutes which was screened in the US last night.

"Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes," the president tweeted hours after the episode aired.

"The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!" he added.

On the show, Oprah quizzed seven people who voted for Mr Trump and seven who voted against.

She asked them about the president’s tax plan, his reported reference to "sh*thole countries" and about America’s eroding reputation around the world.

"There have been some members of Congress, including Republicans, questioning his stability and fitness for office," Oprah said, referring to the president.

"What do you think of that, and do you believe he has the temperament to be president?" she added.

The billionaire former daytime talk show queen also asked the group: "Who here believes that he made the comment about, quote, 'sh*thole countries?'"

The questions provoked a hard-hitting debate between the two politically-divided groups in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Although she has repeatedly claimed she has no ambitions to make a run for the White House, Oprah re-ignited speculation about her political future following her inspirational acceptance speech at the Golden Globes ceremony in January.

The speech about sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement prompted three ovations from the crowd.

However, Oprah told news magazine show Sixty Minutes last week: "I am actually humbled by the fact that people think that I could be a leader of the free world, but it's just not in my spirit - it’s not in my DNA."

Asked after the Golden Globes - where she won the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement - about the possibility of facing Oprah at the ballot box, the president insisted: "I'd beat Oprah,

"Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know her very well. I like Oprah. I don't think she's going to run," he added.

Mr. Trump has praised Oprah on Twitter in the past. When he first considered running for president in 2000, he mentioned that she would be an ideal vice presidential candidate.
