Donald Trump wants to play gold with the Queen at Balmoral Castle during his first official state visit to the UK.

Discussions are reportedly underway for the US President to play a round of golf on the private nine-hole course in Scotland as the Queen looks on, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Mr Trump's team are hoping for a photo opportunity to rival the famous picture of President Ronald Regan and the Queen riding horses together at Windsor Castle in 1982.

The proposals were discussed at a meeting with foreign secretary Boris Johnson in Downing Street last week.

Other plans, The Express reports, include a dinner at Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill was born, and tea at Buckingham Palace.

A source told paper Mr Trump wanted the visit to be "the full Monty".

“He doesn’t want to do what Obama did during his state visit to the UK," the source added, "he wants to go one better.”

During his visit in April, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle had lunch with the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

If the Queen did agree to join Mr Trump at Balmoral in June, it would represent a major break in protocol, as she does not usually depart to her summer residence until August.
