'I don't deal in that stuff' - what Sean Dyche is planning on training ground after Everton collapse
The dramatic comeback that consigned Everton to a third consecutive Premier League defeat will not change Sean Dyche’s plans for the international break. Everton were on the cusp of entering the next two weeks with a feel-good win before three goals in the final nine minutes saw Bournemouth snatch three points at Goodison Park.
That collapse means the club will spend the next fortnight rooted to the bottom of the table after conceding 10 goals across 270 minutes of football.
For Dyche, the focus will remain the same with work at Finch Farm focused on embedding the summer signings and building the fitness levels of players returning from injury.
Asked whether the tone would change as a result of the capitulation, Dyche said: “I don't deal in all that sort of stuff. It is the absolute reality, what has just happened. The plan stays the same.”
That includes a behind-closed-doors game and the integration of deadline day arrival Orel Mangala into the squad as well as new striker Armando Broja after he was brought in through a last-gasp loan deal with Chelsea - though the forward is currently recovering from injury.
Several players are also working to overcome issues or build match fitness ahead of the trip to Aston Villa when the Premier League returns later this month.
Dyche said: “We've got new players who are coming in. We've got to make sure the players who are just on the brink of full fitness get even fitter, but they need some downtime because some will be going away.
“So the plan stays the same from that point of view. But there's no lack of effort. There's no lack of fitness and effort. That's a lack of doing the basics.
"That’s a lack of delivering the final moments of truth. Head it, kick it, turn them, run hard. That's the absolute basics. And that's very, very frustrating for me to not see that in a team that have played so well for 87 minutes.”
