An embattled Nigel Farage has been told to calm down by a radio caller, after the former Ukip leader expressed his concern that Theresa May will not remain in office long enough to ensure a smooth Brexit process.

The UKIP MEP expressed concern on his LBC show, after public backing for the Prime Minister dropped to a new low of just 26 percent.

And with Farage now worried that Theresa May will be out of Number 10 by Christmas, one caller was forced to reassure him – a world away from the cocksure persona usually displayed by the famously outspoken Brexiteer.

“Nigel, you’ve got to let it go”, caller Ben told him.

“This obsession with trying to take down Theresa May… give this woman a break, she’s handling a very difficult time in the country’s history.

“She’s a very calm, very wise, intelligent woman.”

He added: “Nigel, don’t panic mate. Don’t panic – you won the referendum, the Brexit is going to go through, alright?”

Earlier this year, Farage also appeared embattled when he vowed to ‘pick up a rifle’ if Brexit is not delivered.

‘There will be widespread public anger in this country on a scale and in a way we have never seen before’, he told a crowd at a private event in Southampton.

‘If that happens, much as I’m enjoying myself… I enjoy my trips to the States with Trump and the White House and everything else. I’m enjoying my life.

‘But if they don’t deliver this Brexit that I spent 25 years of my life working for, then I will be forced to don khaki, pick up a rifle and head for the front lines.’
