Dothan man accused of setting apartment on fire

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A Dothan man is behind bars after investigators claimed he intentionally set his apartment ablaze with piles of garbage and a blow torch.

At around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dothan Police and Dothan Firefighters rushed to the 900 block of South Ussery Street after receiving reports of a fire in an apartment complex.

According to Dothan Police, when officers arrived, they found a complex resident, 44-year-old Antonio McBride, standing outside his burning apartment with a butane torch in his hand.

Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens tells WDHN McBride set several piles of garbage on fire in his apartment. The fire did not spread out of his apartment and only caused minor damage. No one was injured.

Lt. Owens says they do not know why McBride set the fires, but because other people were in the apartment complex at the time of the fire, investigators charged him with one count of arson in the first degree.

He was booked into the Houston County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

Additional charges are not expected.
