The Met Office has issued a second yellow weather warning for Kent. One has already been issued for heavy rain for parts of the county from 8am on Sunday (January 26) for 22 hours.

It says spells of heavy rain may lead to local flooding during Sunday and Monday. A further warning has now been given, this time for wind across Kent, coming into effect from 6am on Monday (January 27) for 24 hours.

This warns of strong and gusty winds which may bring disruption. People should also be aware there's a chance of power cuts, flying debris, and material being thrown onto beach fronts by large waves, according to forecasters.

Wind speeds on Monday lunchtime could reach up to 65mph in coastal areas such as Dover, and also inland in Tenterden. Away from the coast, areas including Ashford and Tunbridge Wells, will see 56mph to 60mph wind speeds.

Downpours of 10mm-20mm of rain in central and southern England are also forecast, with thunder at times. This is due to an area of low pressure arriving from tomorrow (Sunday), bringing about a wet and windy start to the new week.

The rain warning covers large areas of north and western Kent including Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Dartford and Sevenoaks. Areas towards the south of the county, such as Cranbrook, Tenterden and Romney Marsh are also within the warning area, which ends just outside of Ashford.

Today (Saturday) in Kent it is forecast to be mainly dry and sunny, but feeling a little cold.

What is a yellow weather warning?

The Met Office issues weather warnings, so everyone from residents to emergency responders know what weather is expected and the impact it could have. It describes what a yellow weather warning is: "Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations.

"Many are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low-level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places. Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected.

"Other yellow warnings are issued when the weather could bring much more severe impacts to the majority of people but the certainty of those impacts occurring is much lower. It is important to read the content of yellow warnings to determine which weather situation is being covered by the yellow warning."
