“Doubling Down with the Derricos”' Deon Shares Health Update on Mom GG After Stopping Chemo
“It’s my prayer, my wish, my hope, and my desire that GOD, continues to bless you with an abundance of great health and vibrant lifestyle," Deon wrote
Deon Derrico is sharing an update on his mom’s health.
For her 75th birthday, Deon took to Instagram on Tuesday, Aug. 27 to celebrate his mother Marian "GG" Derrico with a sweet post. After stopping chemotherapy when her cancerous tumor shrunk, Deon is honoring how far GG has come.
“#TheDERRICOs Happy Birthday 75th to the matriarch of my family Ms. Marian J. DERRICO!” the post began. “I love you Ma, from the moon and back because of you…. I’m ME, and I’ve been blessed with all that I have because of your endless love, guidance, strength, and your ability to connect with me on an intellectual level from a small child!”
He continued: “It’s my prayer, my wish, my hope, and my desire that GOD, continues to bless you with an abundance of great health and vibrant lifestyle to allow another 25 years or more of being the Mother, Diva and Grandmother, to all of your 15 Grandchildren that’s Eric, Darian, Derrick, Dallas, Denver, Deniko, Dariz, Deonee, Dacian, Daiten, Diez, Dior, Dawsyn, De’Aren, and Dyver!”
Along with the message were several slides of photos of Doubling Down with the Derricos family members with GG, including one of her and Deon dressed in snow gear and another of her with Deon’s ex-wife Karen.
“As they need your love and influence as you are the oldest living relative that we all have…. To GOD be the GLORY,” the caption concluded.
Fans swarmed to the comments to send their well wishes to the grand dame of the family, with one writing: “Happy birthday GG. Hope you have a wonderful birthday. You deserve to be celebrated with all the love and happiness. Have an amazing day.”
“Happy Birthday GG. I hope you have the best day ever. You have the best family anyone could ever ask for. Xo,” wrote another.
GG was first diagnosed with cancer in 2014, later learning a tumor in her lung had grown to be the size of a baseball in 2022. However, a year later, viewers watched her receive news that the tumor had shrunk.
“It’s not just the physical fight,” she said as she went through treatment at the time. “It’s the mental fight, it’s the emotional fight. I can only fight so much.”
After stopping chemotherapy, fans of the famous family wondered how GG was holding up. In June, Deon told Parade that the recovery process was “challenging.”
"GG, now she's still just dealing with the residual effects of the chemo. So she still has good days and bad days. You know, she has days when I'm asking God like, ‘God, what now?’ And then she has days, I said, ‘Oh my, you know you're looking pretty good today.’"

The family has gone through some other changes recently with Deon and Karen splitting up after nearly 20 years together and sharing 13 children. The two have seemingly remained amicable, with Karen sharing a heartwarming post for Father's Day just days after finalizing their divorce.
"Happy Fathers Day to the best father any 14 children can ask for! @deonderrico," Karen wrote in the caption of the video, which featured a photo of the pair with one of their daughters. "Also, to all the great father’s out there! Happy Father’s Day and may your day be filled with love, joy and rest! 😊"
In the comments, Deon thanked his ex-wife for the tribute, writing, "Awwww thank you @karenederrico for this ❤️❤️❤️."
