Doug King cops more flak as Coventry City exit comments spark response
The deadline-day departure of Kasey Palmer to Hull left many Coventry City fans baffled. The Sky Blues’ subsequent struggles have only served to heighten that disquiet - and now the man himself has been talking about his move away from the CBS Arena.
According to the 27-year-old midfield playmaker, confusion over a contract offer - he says he was offered one before the decision was reversed - prompted his exit as he sought security for his young family.
But his comments have served as more grist to the mill of those Sky Blues supporters concerned by the club’s recruitment policy - and owner/chairman Doug King’s role in the signing of players.

As one of them puts it, they believe he should “leave the football management to the experts and just get on with looking after the financial running of the club”.
Here is a sample of the responses to our story on Palmer’s comments…
Ccfctilhenger: Thanks for clearing all that up, Kasey. You will always be remembered at the CBS for some exciting play. Good luck for the future.
Someone has left this club with little midfield cover and the players play as if they know it. As often with these things, the problem stems from up on high.
Last year we desperately needed a replacement for Hamer and DK went all out on pursuing Kitching. Now we seem to be in a similar situation only this time we needed 2 midfielders and a full back, but brought in a dearth of wingers?
What actually is the chairman/owner doing? Can't he leave the football management to the experts and just get on with looking after the financial running of the club?

Torp43: Unless you were a fly on the wall during these negotiations you have no idea of what happened. What if KP’s agents made unreasonable pay demands? Players move on all the time, and sometimes the ones who come in (like Rudoni) turn out to be better, and sometimes it doesn’t work out. It’s not fantasy football and you can’t just buy and keep who you want. Good luck to KP, but I’m keeping the faith and backing MR and DK. They seem to get more transfer decisions right than most.
Baglady: He went for the money, and who can blame him. Just like O’Hare.
Covcfc60: KP’s comments seem genuine to me and tie in with MR’s comments on there being no new contract on offer. Given MR said he was “brilliant” for CCFC, I would take it was not MR’s decision. It seems a no-brainer to tie him in, especially given what happened to OHare (who did want to go). The problem we now have is no creativity in midfield or change in our pattern of play. We are pretty one-dimensional now.
Mercianfm: Naive to take either side’s story as true. Find the middle ground and that’s the closest to the truth as likely. There is nothing unusual here. The player wanted to leave and left, just as Robbie Keane wanted to leave and left all those years ago.
1965skyblue: There you have it, a small snapshot of a much bigger problem starting to emerge at the club. That story, if true, represents amateurish management planning.
Finhamblue: Doug King strikes again, getting involved and messing things up.
Alan22: Fair play to you, KP - family first every time. Good luck with your career, apart from when you play the mighty Sky Blues
Sky Blue Gav: On the back of losing O’Hare in the summer, who deserved a new contract and to try to match his wage demands, we lose Palmer on deadline day, leaving us short in midfield. Rudi is our only attacking midfield player. Torp and Allen are not high quality Championship players and now we are short in midfield with injuries. Poor management of recruitment, full stop. I don't mind losing Palmer, but replace him and have a clear plan.
