Dove House Hospice relocates its Hessle charity shop to offer ‘wider range of amazing, preloved items’
Recognising its “fantastic” customer base in the town of Hessle, Dove House Hospice is delighted to be able to offer its loyal legions of followers an even bigger place to shop, later this month.
The charity has a long-established presence in Hessle, with its shop in Southgate, but is now looking forward to expanding into larger premises. The new store, at 12-14 Hull Road, Hessle, just off the Square, will launch with a grand opening on Saturday, October 26.
Chris Sadler, chief executive of Dove House, will perform the honours at 10am. The shop will then be open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, and Sundays, 10am to 4pm.

Jennifer Rowan, head of retail at Dove House Hospice, said: “We are really excited to announce we will be relocating to a larger shop in Hessle. We have such a loyal customer base in the area, having had a shop in the town for many years, and we are very happy to be able to offer a wider range of amazing, preloved items in our new bigger shop.
“We are busy getting everything ready for our grand opening on the 26th. Our shops are so important to the running of the hospice and raise vital income, which enables us to help and support local families during some of the most difficult times. Please do come along and support us.”
Dove House said it had developed a “fantastic customer base in Hessle”, but its current shop is “on the smaller size”. Having been on the lookout for a more spacious property for a while, the charity was thrilled to learn of the new bigger shop in Hull Road becoming available.
The new shop will be more accessible in terms of donation drop-off than the previous location. Boasting a slightly larger stock room, it will also give staff and volunteers more space to organise much-needed donated goods.
The store is also looking for volunteers. Anyone with time available and looking for a role where you can meet new people, interact with the local community and make a real difference on every shift is asked to please visit dovehouse.org.uk/volunteer, call 01482 785747, or email volunteers@dovehouse.org.uk
Dove House’s first charity shop opened its doors in Hull’s Beverley Road back in the early 1980s, with funds now generated for the hospice at 35 retail outlets across Hull and East Yorkshire, accounting for around 50 per cent of the charity’s overall income.
It opened its first superstore in Hessle Road, Hull, in the summer of 2023 and this summer launched its first concept charity shop, The Market, at Malmo Road on the Sutton Fields industrial estate.
