Downton Abbey's Allen Leech leads new Channel 5 thriller
Downton Abbey star Allen Leech is set to return to our screens in thriller series The Vanishings, coming to Channel 5 next month.
Based on real-life events from 1990s Ireland, the six-part series follows Allen's detective character as he teams up with a journalist — played by Normal People's India Mullen — to solve a series of disappearances.
The duo will not only have to contend with police corruption, but also a killer that has a personal interest in one of our protagonists.

"After publishing an article about her mother's murder, journalist Lisa Wallace gets a chilling letter from the killer, taunting her with pictures of the murder and of a new victim," the official synopsis reads.
"Soon, news comes of Amy Reynolds, a woman who's gone missing. Lisa and Detective David Burkely begin fighting through Garda red tape as more girls go missing.
"Meanwhile, the killer plays psychological torture games with Lisa, making her choose his victims and even threatening her in person. Lisa and David's path leads them into the crosshairs of the deeply corrupted core of the Garda.
"To cover their tracks, high-ranking Garda members blackmail David with his own secrets. This threatens to destroy them both as they get closer to facing off with the killer who murdered Lisa's mother all those years ago."

Interestingly, this show has already been released under a different title. Originally called The Vanishing Triangle, the show premiered on a US streaming service in 2023, and aired on Ireland's Virgin Media One and dropped on UK platform Acorn TV last year.
It's not the only previously-available show getting a new lease of life on Channel 5. The broadcaster recently premiered Sheridan Smith's Paramount+ series The Castaways, which was notable for some pretty bad reviews.
The Vanishings makes its Channel 5 premiere at 9pm on Thursday, February 6.
