Dozens Arrested as NYPD Says Manhattan Election Protest 'Hijacked'

Dozens of people were reported to have been arrested in New York on November 4 after police said “individuals … attempted to hijack a peaceful protest” in Manhattan.

Footage here by local resident Jordan Baruch shows scuffling between police and protesters as officers tackle one man to the ground.

The march began peacefully, police said, as hundreds of people moved down Fifth Avenue towards Washington Square Park. Similar marches and demonstrations were seen in cities across the US, after President Donald Trump said he would take the election to the Supreme Court.

The NYPD tweeted that 20 arrests were made, with local media later reporting that this figure had neared 60. Police also tweeted that weapons had been confiscated. Credit: Jordan Baruch via Storyful
