Dozens don bras to protest jailing of woman ‘who assaulted policeman with her breast'

Dozens of men and women donned bras on a Hong Kong street to protest the jailing of a woman accused of assaulting a policeman with her breast.

Some 200 people joined the “Breast Walk” protest, in solidarity with 30-year-old Ng Lai-ying, outside Wan Chai police HQ on Sunday.

They waved lingerie in the air and chanted that a breast was “not a weapon.”

Ng Lai-ying was sentenced to three months and 15 days in prison last Thursday.

She had accused Chief Inspector Chan Ka-po of touching her breast during a protest in Yuen Long in March.

The event was calling for Chinese mainlanders to stop visiting Hong Kong to buy cheaper and better quality produce.

Ng claimed that the policeman had gone to grab her bag, but ended up putting his hand on her breast - and accused him of indecent assault.

He in turn said she had used her breast to assault him.

The court ruled against her, by saying she “deliberately pushed her breast against him so she could accuse him of assault.”

Protesters said that the ruling was “ridiculous.”

“The ruling is absurd. How can breasts be a weapon?” said activist Ng Cheuk-ling.

“Police must review their guidelines to handle female protesters,” she added.
