The mayor of Symi has said there is 'no chance' the search for Dr Michael Mosley will be called off until he is found.

The search for the 67-year-old TV doctor has entered its fourth day. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Mosley vanished while on holiday on the Greek island on Wednesday.

According to Manolis Tsimpoukas, who organises searches for missing people on the Dodecanese Islands, firefighters started scouring a 6.5km radius over a mountainous area that is surrounded by sea at 6am on Saturday.

Asked if there had been any sign of Mr Mosley, he said there has been “nothing, nothing” and that if anything is discovered, they will find him within an hour. He said the area is “very dangerous”.

Speaking through a translator, Symi's mayor Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas questioned how anyone could survive in the heat that topped 40C on the day the TV doctor disappeared. The search dog was only able to work for an hour on Saturday morning due to the temperature, he added.

Symi’s mayor of more than two decades said the area where Dr Mosley is believed to have travelled through is 'difficult to pass' and is 'only rocks'. It is also populated by 'loads' of snakes, he said. Mr Papakaloudoukas hoped Dr Mosley is found 'safe and alive' and said 'all the community is so sad about this, [it has] never happened before'.

Dr Mosley’s four children have arrived on Symi, the island’s mayor added on Saturday, and are set to help with the search for the missing television personality. His wife, Dr Claire Bailey, has been searching the island joined by her British friends, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas added.

Speaking through a translator, he said Dr Bailey had been looking through a wooded area above Pedi bay. However, search teams now believe her husband travelled through a different and far-sparser region on the other side of the bay.

It is understood Dr Mosley was last seen by CCTV on a grey-stoned house beside a harbour on the island. He may have walked along a steep uphill concrete road. At the end of the street, a small rocky path leads into the rocky landscape which has little vegetation beyond thistles and dry grass.

Dr Mosley disappeared on Wednesday afternoon. New CCTV images released last night showed him on the main road of Pedi at 13.50pm on Wednesday afternoon, around 20 minutes after he is thought to have hiked a coastal route.

The CCTV was shared by local site MEGA after being recovered by cops who have been "combing" the island of Symi, where the presenter was holidaying with his wife Dr Clare Bailey.

And a second image was captured on surveillance cameras outside the Blue Corner Cafe on Pedi Beach. It is said to show Dr Mosley shielding himself from the sun with an umbrella as he passes by.

Dr Mosley is known as a regular contributor to the ITV show, as well as the BBC's The One Show. He also presents Just One Thing on BBC Radio 4.
