Drake reveals ambition of owning Raptors in Instagram post

Drake has never been shy to to show his support for the Toronto Raptors, but will his role of Global Ambassador be destined to grow into a more powerful and prominent one within the organization?

Well, according to the artist’s Instagram: Maybe?

“Future owner,” were the two simple words that garnered more than 1.2 million likes and sent the Raptors social media community into a bit of a curious frenzy on Thursday. The brief caption accompanied a photo of Drake standing in front of a Raptors logo dressed in all black, head down, doing some weird thing with his hand, as he quietly contemplates his future while realizing he’s gonna need a boat-load of cash to ever have a chance at owning even a sliver of the franchise.

NBA teams are not even attainable for Drake-level rich people. Think about that for a second.

Valued at around $1.4 billion by Forbes in February, a stake in the franchise as small as 10 percent could run ol’ Aubrey as high more than $140 million (and that value is increasing by the day). Drake, on the other hand, was estimated to have a net worth of $100 million by Money in June — making him the fourth-richest rapper on earth.

The 31-year-old took on his role as Global Ambassador five years ago, and both his global popularity and role with the team have expanded immensely since 2013. He’s become one of the most streamed and highest-selling artists of all time, while growing the team’s worldwide brand and helping new players assimilate to Toronto’s social scene (sprinkled in with a little bit of “recruiting).

Now, if only someone could lend poor Drake a few million dollars, he’d be in business.
