Five people have been rescued from an elevator in East Jakarta, Indonesia, after becoming trapped on Saturday 9 October. The lift, in a Muslim shop on Jalan Pemuda Pulogadung, experienced mechanical failure on Saturday night. One of the five people trapped was a child. Sutrisno, head of the Pulogadung Fire Platoon, said: "According to the building manager's statement, the elevator suddenly didn't function properly due to a power outage in the building. After getting a backup supply from the generator suddenly the generator engine does not work properly, causing the lift to stop before reaching the right floor."
