Dramatic Moment Snowboarder Triggers Avalanche on New Hampshire Mountain
A snowboarder triggered – and then outpaced – a slab avalanche on Mount Washington in Sargent’s Purchase, New Hampshire, on November 29.
Andrew Drummond captured this video showing the moment a layer of snow started sliding behind a snowboarder carving down Tuckerman Ravine.
According to Mount Washington Avalanche Center (MWAC) observation data, the avalanche was reported as a “small, thin wind slab.”
A wind slab avalanche is the “release of a cohesive layer of snow (a slab) formed by the wind-drifted snow,” according to avalanche.org. Credit: Andrew Drummond via Storyful
