A caravan was reduced to a shell after catching fire in a Nottinghamshire village. Crews from Ashfield and Eastwood fire stations responded to a the fire in Underwood at just before 7pm on Monday, October 14.

When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was "well alight" on a grass verge on the A608 Mansfield Road, the main road in and out of the village from the M1 motorway. It is unclear how the caravan came to be ablaze.

After the fire was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reels jets, Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service handed the situation over to police. Pictures were posted on Facebook by Ashfield Fire Station.

They show the remnants of the scorched caravan, with fire service tape cordoning off the area around the vehicle to the public.
