Dramatic photos as car erupts into flames at busy Alvaston road junction
Passers-by were shocked to spot a car well-alight in a busy area of Alvaston at lunchtime on Tuesday (January 21). The incident happened close to the junction of Brighton Road and Hall Street and near London Road at around 11.45am this morning.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) responded to an emergency call to the scene and were able to extinguish the flames in a short space of time using jets of water and wearing breathing apparatus.
A DRFS spokesman said: "Crews from Ascot Drive attended a vehicle fire on Brighton Road, Alvaston. Incident involved a car which was well alight.

"Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and dampen down."
Traffic was delayed on London Road, as cars were directed away from the Brighton Road junction. Derbyshire police also attended to carry out traffic control in the area while the emergency was being dealt with.
