The show followed the exploits of Harchester United in the West Midlands, running for TEN series between 1997 and 2007 – meaning it celebrates its 20th anniversary later this year. It introduced us to many future famous faces, and saw Harchester deal with the ups and downs of the football league, all while battling various own goals in their private lives.
Just like any drama of its ilk, storylines got rather ridiculous over time. What started off as a quaint show about a team dealing with things like relegation and qualifying for the Champions League, turned into a soap where there were a worrying number of deaths for a football club. In fact, it ended on a cliffhanger, with fans never knowing who survived an arson attack on the final game of the season.
But what happened to its huge list of cast members? We've tracked down most of its memorable characters to see what they're up to now:
1. Terry Kiely (Karl 'Fletch' Fletcher)
If you're going to pick the lead of the majority of Dream Team's ten seasons, you'd probably go for Fletch, Harchester's legendary striker, who played for the club in three different periods from 1986 to 1999.
Terry didn't ever follow up his gig on Dream Team with any further acting roles, and the show remains his most recent credit on IMDb. Though, in 2001, he played another footballer – Harpsey in Mike Bassett: England Manager.
It was reported in 2011 that panto star Gerard Kelly left his entire £145,000 estate to Terry in his will. Terry dated fellow Dream Team star Kara Tointon for 18 months before they split in 2006. Several years ago, he was working as a lifeguard at a swimming pool in Richmond, Surrey.
2. Alison King (Lynda Block)
Linda was a huge fan of the club, had various relationships with the players and loved getting caught up in a bit of murder-mystery fun.
After leaving the show after season 9, Alison became an even bigger soap star. Having had roles in Holby City and Doctors, she landed the role of Carla Connor in Coronation Street for several years before leaving in May 2016.
Fact: she keeps a photo of Sir Anthony Hopkins with her whenever she's performing. She once said: "I have an old black-and-white picture of him that I put up on my wall everywhere I work, otherwise I feel like I fail as an actor. I'd love to take him for a drink."
3. Charles Venn (Curtis Alexander)
Also known as Chucky Venice and Chucky Venn, Charles played powerful defender Curtis in the Sky show for a number of years.
After scoring small roles in Hollywood movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and The Dark Knight, he starred as Ray Dixon in EastEnders from 2012 to 2013. Two years later, he joined Casualty as Jacob Masters.
4. Ricky Whittle (Ryan Naysmith)
Skilled midfielder Ryan had plenty of drama, from hit and runs to "doing a John Terry" with his team mate's wife.
Ricky has become one of the show's biggest exports in recent years. Having appeared for several years in Hollyoaks as Calvin Valentine, and finishing second in the 2009 edition of Strictly, he has since carved himself a successful career in the States.
He was a series regular in both The 100 and Mistresses, and currently plays the lead character Shadow Moon in Amazon Prime's American Gods.
5. Kate Magowan (Helen Jensen)
Kate began her career in season 2 of Dream Team as Helen back in 1998. After a number of small roles, she began appearing in both high profile TV projects and movies.
In 2007, she played Princess Una in the movie Stardust, and in 2013 she joined the cast of EastEnders as beauty salon owner Sadie Young.
6. Amanda Abbington (Marilyn Harwood)
Okay, she was only in two episodes in 1999, but we were so surprised that we had to include her.
After roles in the likes of Doc Martin, Coupling, and Teachers, Amanda appeared in the underrated 2005 comedy sketch show Man Stroke Woman and the comedy series After You've Gone with Nicholas Lyndhurst.
In 2013, she began appearing in Mr Selfridge as Miss Mardle, and a year later joined her then-partner Martin Freeman in the third series of Sherlock as Mary Morstan, the wife of John Watson.
7. Robert Kazinsky (Casper Rose)
Robert played Casper from 2005 until 2006, but was killed off towards the end of the ninth series after he announced his intention to leave. That same year, he joined EastEnders as new hunk Sean Slater, before leaving in 2009.
He then made a move to the States, and almost had a role in The Hobbit movies before having to leave for personal reasons. He later had parts in Hollywood blockbusters Pacific Rim and Warcraft. He also played a baddie in True Blood.
8. Kara Tointon (Gina Moliano)
Kara played Gina on and off before leaving in 2005. Her sister Hannah also had a role in the show.
Like many of her co-stars, she went on to have a leading role in EastEnders from 2005 to 2009 as Dawn Swann. A year later, she won Strictly Come Dancing.
She has continued to have starring roles in TV and film, including Mr Selfridge, The Sweeney, and ITV's Christmas live version of The Sound of Music as Maria von Trapp.
9. Martin Crewes (Luis Amor Rodriguez)
Australian Martin featured in over 100 episodes as Spanish player Luis from 1998 to 2000. He has continued to have small TV roles since then, including appearances in Bad Girls, Heartbeat and Casualty. He also had a major role as Chad Kaplan in the first Resident Evil movie in 2002.
He has mostly concentrated on musical theatre work since then, and his long list of projects have included Les Misérables, West Side Story, South Pacific and many more. He originated the leading role of Walter Hartright in the West End production of The Woman in White in 2004. He did the same for the Australian premiere of Doctor Zhivago as Pasha/Strelnikov.
10. Duncan Pow (Liam MacKay)
Duncan played tough tackler Liam in the series for over 60 episodes from 2005 to 2007, and actor Duncan soon joined the cast of Holby City as Linden Cullen for two years.
He has gone on to land small roles in some big TV shows in recent years, ranging from The Wrong Mans, The Night Manager, 24, Humans, Unforgotten, and Black Mirror. He also played Sergeant Melshi in Rogue One.
11. Jamie Lomas (Alex Dempsey)
Dream Team was Jamie's breakthrough role in 2005 as head coach Alex, and the year he left the show, he joined Hollyoaks as the naughty Warren Fox, a role he has played on and off ever since.
In between then, he also had the regular role of Jake Stone in EastEnders from 2013 to 2015. He was married to Coronation Street's Kym Marsh from 2012 to 2014.
12. Nina Muschallik (Nikki Pegs)
Nina had already had an impressive resumé before joining Dream Team as WAG Nikki. Not only did she play a 'Saucy Wood Nymph' in Bottom movie Guest House Paradiso, but she was an actual Bond Girl in The World is Not Enough as Verushka, one of Robbie Coltrane's ladies.
She has continued to act and model since leaving Dream Team in 2004, but her last on-screen role was the 2009 horror movie Knife Edge, also starring Hugh Bonneville.
13. Daymon Britton (Sean Hocknell)
Daymon played player Sean from 1997 to 1999, and he has continued to have regular TV roles since then. He went on to play Dom Meredith in Byker Grove for 100 episodes from 2002 to 2006.
He has since had small roles in the likes of Hollyoaks, Casualty and Emmerdale. His most recent role was in an episode of Holby City earlier this year.
14. Emma Gilmour (Kelly James)
After playing Kelly for nearly 150 episodes from 1998 to 2000, Emma had a number of small roles on TV, including in Extras, Coronation Street, Footballers' Wives and Cold Feet.
She hasn't had an on-screen credit since 2008, but now works as a singer, and as of 2014 was performing at weddings across the country. Judging from her Flickr page, she is still good friends with Alison King from her Dream Team days.
15. Jonathan Howard (Gavin Moody)
Jonathan joined in 2005 as youth team star Gavin, and he has gone to star in some impressive projects in recent years.
It wasn't for another six years before he landed small roles in World War Z and Downton Abbey, and then he played Darcy's love interest Ian in Thor: The Dark World. He then appeared in several episodes of Mr Selfridge, and has since had recurring roles in Dominion, Episodes, Guilt and Kingdom. He has been cast in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
16. Naomi Ryan (Ashleigh King)
Naomi had already had roles as a child in Coronation Street and Mile High before joining Dream Team in 2005.
17. Jim Alexander (Jamie Parker)
Jim played poor goalkeeper Jamie, whose gambling problems saw him being kidnapped. Only in Dream Team.
Since then, Jim has had various small roles in TV and film, including parts in The IT Crowd, Casualty, New Tricks, EastEnders and The Interceptor.
He has also become an acting coach and entrepreneur, setting up the company Fast Track, which works with employees hoping to join big companies. Since May of this year, he has been the Head of Learning and Development at Wildgoose Events.
