Drew Barrymore celebrated her 43rd birthday on Thursday, and she rang in the occasion by taking her fans all the way back to 1982 with a throwback photo.

And this wasn't just any old throwback photo - it was a photo from her time working on E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial that she had printed on her cake.

The actress took to Instagram to share a picture of the simple sheet cake which featured a photo of her young self that was taken during the sci-fi classic's promotional period.

Barrymore posted the photo alongside a sweet caption in which she referred to her 43rd as her "most perfect birthday." She later shouted out her "trusted pack", aka her close friends and family members who included Jill Kargman, Ivy Kargman and Nancy Fallon.

"Wolves who look out for one another and care about things other than themselves," she wrote. "I am so inspired by those who choose to fight for what that believe in."

Barrymore followed up her photo post a few hours later with a short video in which she thanks her fans for their birthday wishes while also embracing getting older.

"I'm so happy to get older because getting older is better," she said. "It's a stripe that you earn. It's delicious and wonderful. Never fight age. It's a losing battle. Just embrace getting better."
