Drew Barrymore shares body-shaming incident with fan who assumed she was pregnant: 'No, I'm just fat'

Like many people, Drew Barrymore‘s weight tends to fluctuate. According to the Santa Clarita Diet actress, when she’s on a break from filming it tends to go up. When she’s on the set, it’s down.

As Us Weekly reports, Barrymore described her dieting process during her appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden Wednesday night. Though she admitted that she “hates” dieting and “would much rather eat fettuccine Alfredo all day long,” she does make an effort to trim down — using what she calls a “Denzel Washington method” — before filming resumes.

Of course, there’s always some body-shaming person around to remind her to watch her weight. In Barrymore’s case, it was a woman who — whether well intentioned or not — approached her and made reference to the former child star’s pregnancy. The problem: She wasn’t pregnant.

The incident happened at a restaurant Barrymore was leaving with a group of friends and their children.

“This woman stopped me and was like, ‘God, you have so many kids,’ and I go, ‘Well, not all of them are mine; I just have two,'” the mother of daughters Olive and Frankie told Corden.

“And she said, ‘Well, and you’re expecting, obviously,’” Barrymore continued as Corden and fellow guest John Boyega cringed. “And I literally looked at her and go, ‘No, I’m just fat right now.’ And I walked out of the restaurant and I’m not gonna lie, I was like, ‘Oh, man, that is rough.’”

Oof. Corden told Barrymore to dismiss comments like that, but the assumption clearly stung.

“I was, like, ‘I’ll just tell this story and make fun of myself,’ but she’s a bitch,” she quipped.

To make matters worse, she’s also had to field remarks from her own family. Joking that she likes to “let herself go,” Barrymore shared how her mother recently suggested she try cool sculpting, while her daughter “pats her belly” and compares her to a pudgy dog.
