A drink driver crashed into vehicle while five times over the limit in Stetchworth. A member of the public called police at about 11.35pm on April 27 after he was involved in a collision with a van on London Road.

Charlie Walker, 35, of no fixed address, who was driving the van, pulled into the path of the other driver and admitted he had been drink driving. Officers breathalysed Walker at the scene and he blew 176, five times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100ml of breath.

In custody he provided an evidential sample of 142 microgrammes. At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (November 12), Walker was given a 12-month community order after pleading guilty to drink driving.

He was disqualified from driving for three years and must wear a 90-day Alcohol Abstinence and Monitoring Requirement tag.

PC Joe Braddick, who investigated, said: “Drink driving is a serious offence which puts the lives of other road users at serious risk of harm. Both drivers were lucky to walk away from the collision with no injuries.”
