Drink-driving M6 trucker caught with empty beer bottles in cab at Stoke-on-Trent
An HGV driver was nearly three times the drink-drive limit after being pulled over near the M6 in Stoke-on-Trent. Police witnessed the driver 'completely misjudge' the Junction 15 slip road off the motorway.
Upon pulling the lorry over, officers spotted empty beer bottles inside the cab, and noted the driver's inability to walk in a straight line. A breathalyser test revealed an alarming level of 103, far above the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
Officers then took the driver into custody to provide an evidential sample. Staffordshire Police shared details about the event on X on Tuesday, November 26, with their spokesperson stating: "The driver of this HGV completely misjudged the exit slip on M6 at J15.

"Noticing empty beer bottles in the cab and his failure to walk in a straight line gave @StaffsRCT officers sufficient cause for concern. The breath test led to this driver's trip to custody for an evidential sample," they explained.
The incident drew public reaction online, with one comment applauding, "Well done guys."
Meanwhile, another queried: "What ever is a matter with these people?". Another response came from a fellow HGV driver who expressed disapproval saying: "I'm an HGV driver, to drive a vehicle that size or any vehicle with alcohol in your system is just so wrong. I hope justice is served, I hope he loses his licence and I hope nobody has to knock on someone's door to say a loved one isn't coming home."
