Drinkers delighted as Wetherspoon pub 'breaks ranks' with new rule

A Wetherspoon pub has banned queuing, telling people to stand at the bar and wait to be served instead. Pub drinkers say queuing, which was introduced during lockdown to close the spread of Covid, has continued in many pubs despite the end of regulations.

Now one Wetherspoon pub has put up a sign telling customers not to queue, reports the Daily Star.

A Twitter campaigner posting as QueuesPub shared an image of the signing telling people not to queue in The Lifeboat, a Wetherspoons in Formby.

The sign reads: "Please stand at the bar to be served. Thank you." It led to QueuesPub to proudly declare: "The first Wetherspoons to break ranks, a vital moment in the campaign. Formby."

One X user dsaid: "The revolution begins!" Another said: "Wetherspoons was ground zero for this plague so I'm glad they're taking responsibility and doing something about it."

A third said: "Stand at the bar, all along. Don't queue. A proper barman can cope with that. Queuing came in post lockdown and is an abomination."

A fourth added: "I was in a pub on the river in London last week, queue had formed out the door. Bypassed that and went straight to the bar and was served immediately. Be brave! We can fight back."

Another wrote: "Queuing in a pub makes it look like a coach load of tourists have just been dropped off for their pre-paid roast and pint of bitter."

A representative for J D Wetherspoon declined to comment.
