Driver caught behind wheel after taking cocaine and cannabis hit with road ban
A DRIVER caught behind the wheel after taking cannabis and cocaine has been banned from the roads.
Laurence Leavy, of Cledford Lane, Middlewich, was travelling along Chesterway in Northwich on November 14, last year when he was caught.
Subsequent blood tests revealed the 42-year-old had 340µg/L of Benzoylecgonine (a cocaine breakdown product) and at least 2.5µg/L of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (cannabis component) in his system.
The respective legal limits are 50µg/L for Benzoylecgonine and 2µg/L for Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.
Leavy was also caught with a quantity of cocaine in his possession.
Appearing at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, March 17, Leavy pleaded guilty to two charges of drug driving and indicated a guilty plea to possessing a class A drug.
Taking his pleas into account, magistrates disqualified him from driving for 23 months and fined him £180.
An order was also made for the forfeiture and destruction of the cocaine.
Leavy must also pay £120 in court costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
