Driver 'critical' as police, paramedics and firefighters called to Staffordshire crash

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to a crash in Staffordshire which has left one driver in a 'critical' condition and another with 'severe injuries'. Emergency services had descended on the A51 through Longdon Green last night.

Today and collision investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward as a probe into the smash gets underway. Officers, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene - between Lichfield and Rugeley - at 8pm on Saturday night (November 23) following reports of a 'serious collision'.

The force found a blue Mini Countryman and a silver Mazda MX-5 had been involved the smash. A spokesman for the force said: "The driver of the Mazda, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital and remains there in a critical condition. The driver of the Mini, a man in his 50s, has also gone to hospital with severe injuries.

"Collision investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with any information, particularly those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time, are asked to get in touch with us."
