Driver Rescued After Car Leaves Road, Drives Through Wood, Landing in Creek

A 65-year-old driver was lucky to be alive following an incident in which his vehicle “travelled approximately 500 feet through a wooded area, hit two trees, and landed wheels down” in a creek in Meridian Hills, Indiana, on Sunday, July 14.

Within 10 minutes of arrival at the scene, divers were able to rescue the victim from the vehicle before he was transported to St Vincent Hospital in stable condition, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

The fire department requested assistance from a water rescue task force and tethered the vehicle to keep it from moving downstream before using a crane to lift it from the creek. Credit: Indianapolis Fire Department via Storyful
