A driver was surrounded by smoke and flames as he drove near Lillooet, British Columbia, where an “out-of-control” wildfire raged on June 29.
Footage by Cory Sterritt shows him driving through thick smoke as he passes by flames on his way back from working at the Big Bar landslide site.
Sterritt told Storyful that he and his passenger appeared to be “trapped” by the fire at one stage of their journey, and credited his passenger’s training as a certified frontline firefighter for helping keep them out of danger.
“He suggested the only way [was] forward as we might be in a worse situation turning around before the fire closed in,” Sterritt told Storyful.
Authorities issued evacuation orders locally.
