Drivers are being warned against neglecting to contact the DVLA should they suffer from certain abrupt health issues, due to an obscure regulation that could lead to a hefty £1,000 penalty.

The car specialists at BigWantsYourCar.com have emphasised the importance of reporting any unexpected bouts of dizziness, advising drivers to notify the department promptly. They stated: "If you experience sudden, disabling, or recurrent dizziness or vertigo, it's vital to inform the DVLA.

"Failing to do so can lead to serious repercussions, including a fine of up to £1,000, and in some cases, prosecution if your condition results in an accident."

For those holding car or motorcycle licences, the process involves completing and dispatching the DIZ1 form to the address specified on it. Meanwhile, individuals with bus, coach, or lorry licences are required to submit the DIZ1V form, as highlighted by the experts.

The experts elaborated that these "lesser-known rules" exist to ensure that all drivers are medically and physically capable of safely operating their vehicles. They added: "Dizziness or vertigo can suddenly impair your driving abilities, endangering yourself and others on the road."

They concluded with a clear message: "The rules are clear: if you have a medical condition that could affect your driving, you must report it.", reports Lancs Live.

Ignoring to disclose medical conditions such as sudden dizziness could not only endanger lives but also result in a £1,000 fine if it impacts one's ability to drive. However, under certain circumstances, drivers could face prosecution for this oversight, such as if an undisclosed condition results in an accident.
