Drivers face £2,500 fines for 'overreacting' between now and December
Spider season starts THIS MONTH in the UK - and drivers have been warned they face £2,500 fines and nine penalty points for "overreacting" when seeing a spider in their car. The arachnids are on the loose as we head deeper towards Christmas and away from the summer months.
Tim Maule, CEO and Child Safety Expert at Diono, said: "Regular inspections are crucial. Before each journey, take a moment to check your child's car seat for any signs of spider activity. Pay special attention to crevices and corners where spiders might hide or drop onto you, such as sun visors.
"Look for any signs of webs or spider activity, inside and outside your car, especially in darker, less disturbed areas of the car." Those who overreact when finding a spider in their car could put themselves and other road users at a higher risk of causing a crash.

This can potentially see them charged with dangerous driving, which can lead to fines of up to £2,500 and nine penalty points in the most serious cases. He added: "Keep your vehicle clean and clutter-free. Spiders are attracted to dark, undisturbed areas.
"Regular cleaning not only deters spiders but also ensures your child's seating area remains hygienic." He went on: "Consider using child-safe, spider-repellent methods. Natural deterrents like peppermind oil can be effective when used safely and away from your child's immediate seating area.
"A quick wipe down and spritz with some natural repellents is highly recommended." Maintaining a clean car, free of food bits and clutter, will also assist in deterring spiders from setting up residence, Diono experts went on to say this week.
Tim notes that "spiders are attracted to dark, undisturbed areas", hence routine cleaning not only helps in keeping them at bay but also ensures a hygienic environment for your child's seating area.
