Drivers have been warned over a new ban in London - which they have branded a "nightmare". Motorists and road users face being banned from the new Labour Party government and London Mayor Sadiq Khan from driving along Oxford Street.

"If they are going to allow the mayor to overrule the council, then they might as well get rid of the local council, save a load of money in the process and let Khan take over responsibility for emptying the bins as well," a driver fumed.

"When people get mugged, stabbed, and/or murdered, the Police finally arrive, after circumnavigating your new fun road lay-out, and then RUN ON FOOT to the incident. Without cars there are fewer witnesses, less cars as deterrent, and more violent crime," a second fumed.

"Both are complete idiots and don’t give a toss what the people think..Khan and Liebour are going to destroy London and the country," another wrote. "It has suffered under Kahn’s watch. Now he wants to create a corporation to bypass the council. What’s next on his dictatorial, anti-London agenda?" another said.

“It’s going to be a nightmare. We need to get rid of him [Sadiq Khan] anyway," another said. “Traffic is bad as it is now, but you’re just going to create even more traffic”, a cabbie said. “I thought he was meant to be environmentally friendly. This is not environmentally friendly, it’s just plain stupid.”

"Oxford Street was once the jewel in the crown of Britain's retail sector, but there's no doubt that it has suffered hugely over the last decade," Khan said. "Urgent action is needed to give the nation's most famous high street a new lease of life.

"I am excited to be working with the new government, and local retailers and businesses, on these plans that will help to restore this famous part of the capital to its former glory, while creating new jobs and economic prosperity for the capital and the country."
