Drivers with larger petrol and diesel cars face new 'Land Rover' tax
Drivers with larger petrol and diesel cars could face a 'Land Rover tax' and new parking restrictions. Cardiff City Council has launched a consultation to ask residents and other interested parties to give their opinions on whether new parking measures should be introduced.
"To support our wider 10-year transport plan, we are proposing a new way to manage parking in Cardiff. Parking spaces across the city are limited and can cause tension between commuters, residents, businesses, and other road users," it states.
Official documents from Cardiff City Council state that they are proposing to introduce a limit on vehicles over 3,500kg in weight from getting a parking permit. Any vehicles over this weight would not be able to obtain a parking permit of any kind, if the new proposals were to be introduced.

It aims to "prioritise parking for those who need it the most, such as blue badge holders" and "help residents park closer to their homes". It wants to "encourage turnover of vehicles to support businesses", "reduce congestion and make sustainable travel alternatives more attractive" and "implify parking restrictions so drivers can easily understand where and how to park correctly" too.
The Cardiff City Council consultation questions whether certain areas of the city should have additional rules to crack down on larger vehicles over 2,400kg weight should pay more. "We need to make sure the proposals work, so we want to hear your views," the local authority stated, adding: "The new parking plan for Cardiff looks to create 2 new strategic parking areas called the Central Area and the Peripheral Area. The Central Area is broadly bounded to the north by the A48, east by River Rhymney, south by Cardiff Bay and west by the River Ely.
"The Peripheral Area is everywhere else. Due to the different characteristics of these areas, we are proposing to treat parking schemes differently. Please enter your postcode to see what area you live in."
